Fairtrade status renewed
Middlesbrough has had its Fairtrade status renewed for another year by the Fairtrade Foundation. Our Fairtrade status will now run until March 2011, when we will need to renew again
In their letter, the Fairtrade Foundation made the
following comment: “From
reading your renewal application it is clear that your Fairtrade campaign
has continued to go forward in Middlesbrough and that a great deal of hard
work has gone in to promoting Fairtrade and increasing understanding of why
Fairtrade is so important. We were particularly impressed by the increase in
the number of outlets selling Fairtrade products and by the wide range of
events organized to promote the principles and values of Fairtrade. We
appreciate the time and energy involved in running a campaign such as this
and would like to thank everyone who has played a part in taking Fairtrade
in
St Cuthbert’s Church in Marton was the winner in the Fairtrade category of 2009's Middlesbrough Community Environment Awards. The church undertakes a wide range of Fairtrade activities each year, supporting Fairtrade Fortnight and holding regular awareness-raising events. There are regular updates on Fairtrade in the church newsletter and the church even uses Fairtrade wine in communion. Runner up in this year's Awards was the Tees Valley Fairtrade for the Go Bananas Event.
