As Chair
of the Middlesbrough Fairtrade Group, I would like to welcome you to our
campaign website. Middlesbrough achieved Fairtrade
Town status in March 2007 and we are very proud to have achieved this
accolade. This website includes many examples of the work that is
taking place in the town to promote Fairtrade and make Fairtrade products
more accessible to our communities.
We see many benefits from
Fairtrade in Middlesbrough. Not only does the campaign promote social
justice for producers in developing countries, it also demonstrates
Middlesbrough's commitment to global issues and helps improve consumer
choice, contributing to a vibrant local economy.

In Middlesbrough,
the Fairtrade campaign is managed by the Fairtrade Group, with
representation from Middlesbrough Council, the private sector and voluntary
and community organisations. The Group members work with a broad range of
partners across the town to deliver a diverse and exciting
programme of activities each year. The achievement of Fairtrade Town status
has only be possible with their support. We are always looking for new
partnerships and activities to deliver the Fairtrade message into our
communities and we always welcome new partner organisations and individuals
to support us as we continue to promote Fairtrade in Middlesbrough.
